My friend the spider! – Mummascribbles
I never in a million years thought I would be writing that title!
This evening I went into the bathroom to get Zach’s bath ready. I went for a quick wee (tmi?!), because you can’t do bathtime and bedtime routine needing a wee! While sitting there on the loo, I spotted a spider on the floor. I don’t do spiders. Not at all. I hate them. They hate me. Me and spiders have a terrible relationship. When I was younger and went up to bed there would always be one up there waiting for me! Within seconds you’d hear me shouting down the stairs Daaaaaaaad and what followed would be a groan, a tut and a I’m on my way . That has never changed except for the shout now consists of Deeeeeeeean!
The difference now is that I have a toddler and Dean isn’t always home. That’s where I found myself this evening, faced with Mr Spider. I knew I couldn’t squish him in front of Zach – I knew I had to rescue Mr Spider and put him outside, so armed with a rather large glass and a piece of post, I slid Mr Spider into said glass. He had rather large legs once he’d actually moved and my skin was crawling. I headed to the door and on the way decided to show Zach Mr Spider which meant hovering in the hallway with my arch enemy. I only let him look for a few seconds in case it all went wrong and Mr Spider slid out because then I’d be completely panicked and would probably squish it.
I opened the front door to pop Mr Spider outside and that’s when he became my friend, for hanging in the lock outside were my keys! Had it not have been for Mr Spider, those keys would still be hanging in the lock. I would have done the bath, sat upstairs doing bedtime, exercised, cooked, possible gone to bed, all the time with my keys hanging in the door.
This isn’t the first time it’s happened recently, Dean came home from work a month or so ago and my keys were still hanging in the door! I really must stop doing it, it’s just sometimes I’m laden down with bags and a toddler and today it was pouring with rain.
But today, just this once, I’d like to say thank you Mr Spider 🙂
However if you and your friends could please stay outside, I promise to remember to take my keys out of the lock!
