Our long weekend happy – a theatre trip, a plumber, old cars, and Nannie! – Mummascribbles
This is a special edition weekend happy because the other half took Friday off work so that we could take Zach out for the day.
I had booked a trip to see Brainiac Live at the Garrick Theatre months ago and Zach had no idea about it until the day before we were going. Nannie was booked in to look after Oscar because he was too young to go with us, and she arrived in the morning nice and early. The three of us were ready to leave but Oscar was having major FOMO and started crying. We said our goodbyes because we had to, and then we left, sadly hearing his devastation as we walked down the road. When we got to the station, I messaged my Mum who told me he was still very upset so I was really worried I was going to have to go back. I remembered that we had some chocolate in the fridge though, and so told her to give him some. When she next messaged back, he had calmed down, so it was safe for me to get on the train!

We made our way into Leicester Square on the train and tube and arrived at the theatre a little early, so we popped down to Trafalgar Square so Zach could see some of the sights!

It was soon time to go and take our seats at the theatre, which were on the very front row of the stalls (well, not quite the front row, but the first two rows weren’t bookable because of health and safety so technically the front row!). Zach was both super excited and super nervous – he was convinced something was going to go wrong and we were all going to die!

The show started though and he was in pure amazement throughout. He loved all of the experiments, all of the explosions (even though he was shaking and holding his ears firmly down!), and overall, he had an amazing time. At the end, he declared it the best show ever and said that he wanted to see it all over again!
When we went out into the foyer, the cast of the show were meeting the kids which was awesome as he got to have his photo taken with them. Zach absolutely loves all things science and is always doing experiments at home, so it really was the perfect show for him to see.

We needed to have lunch after the show, so we had a look on the map and noticed there was a Pizza Express just up the road, so we decided to head there. Which was a really good shout because I haven’t been there in blimmin years and I adore their dough balls. We all had a yummy lunch and it was really weird being out without Oscar. Much calmer than it would have been if he was there!

After our food, we decided to walk from Leicester Square to Oxford Circus because the Piccadilly Line had severe delays so we wanted to avoid it and get straight on the Victoria Line. Luckily the other half knows that area incredibly well and knew all the cut throughs to get us there!
We made it to the tube which made it to our train, and we were home by 4pm, with a very happy Oscar opening the door to us. He had had a fab time with Nannie despite the initial upset!
While we were out, we had received a delivery of goods that I will be writing on here about at a later date, and when we opened it, all the boys wanted to do was use everything inside. So they had some fun time, my Mum left for home before the horrid weather came in, and then we popped some dinner in for the boys before we got them ready and up to bed!
I then spent the evening working before finally caving in just after 11pm and going to bed!
Saturday 10th August
Zach was up early as usual, but Oscar was enjoying a bit of a lay in. I managed to sneak out of his bed and it meant I got to drink my tea in a bit more peace than normal which was nice!
Once he was up, I got them sorted for breakfast and then got the other half up so I could jump in the shower and get Zach to swimming. Just as we were about to leave, Oscar decided he wanted to come too, so he very quickly got dressed and I took the pair of them, which I won’t lie, was a bit of a nightmare!
When Zach had finished his lesson, I managed to get him sorted, and then we went up to the membership office so that I could get Oscar’s name down on the waiting list for lessons once he turns three. And once that was sorted (amid much chaos from my children), we popped to the cafe where they had a cookie each. They tried to get me to take them to the park but it was far too windy, so we went straight home for more brekkie! The other half was at the barbers and then he popped to the shops on the way home and finally got home to relieve me of sole parenting! And he did that by getting the paints out which the boys loved!
I was tidying up the kitchen because we had a plumber coming round to replace our tap, and then made some lunch with the other half. We were half way through eating when said plumber arrived and for the next two hours there was chaos because the boys just wanted to watch what he was doing and we have a very narrow kitchen! I think it’s safe to say that we put 26 year old Sonny off having kids for life!
Once he was gone, we decided to take the kids to the shops for a couple of bits, and there just so happened to be a classic car show on which they thought was pretty cool. So we had a look around the cars, looked in a couple of shops for a new dish drainer (fail, our draining board is a weird size so we needed to look elsewhere), and then popped to Homebase to get a tube to replace the outside pipe that was leaking!
When we got home, the other half fixed said pipe and was mega proud of his man skills! I then went and cleaned the car, and dinner was cooking at the same time. The other half tried to sit down with the kids and watch the new Spiderman movie, but alas, Oscar started falling asleep and it all went to pot. They ended up sitting and doing some puzzles while we finished dinner, and then when it was ready, it was eaten and they were put to bed!
I was supposed to be doing some client work but hit a snag and couldn’t get hold of the information I needed, so instead, I did some social media scheduling for myself and then wrote this post right up until this point!
Sunday 11th August
Zach and Daddy got up before Oscar and I – in fact, Oscar well and truly enjoyed a little snooze, bless his heart!
Once we were up though, it was time to get ready as Oscar had his second football masterclass session. We were all going again, as just like last week there was a bouncy castle there, so we all drove up there and Oscar had a great session while Zach had some bouncing fun.
When the class was over, Oscar had a bounce and then we went to the car and drove over to my Mum’s house. We needed go to our car dealership to talk ‘the end of our contract’ and so as Mum lives only five minutes away from it, she was watching the boys for us while we were there, because it would have been a nightmare with them tagging along!
We arrived at my Mum’s and the boys immediately went running down to the end of her garden to see if there were any ducks down on the river, and then Oscar busied himself playing with the marbles in her gravel! We then had some lunch, a cookie, and then got the boys sorted as Mum was taking them over to the field round the corner to her house for a run around while we went out. They had a fun time there with Nannie, even though Oscar was once again not keen on us leaving him!
We were down at the car dealers discussing our options and well, we were pretty unimpressed by their absolutely rubbish offer and so left shoving two fingers up at them (well, while we drove back past anyway!). I mean it’s a 4 year old car with only 1 owner and 13000 miles on the clock, and they reckon it’s worth far less than what we think we could get for it! So we shall be paying off the outstanding amount and keeping it for a while before we maybe try and sell it on and then choose from a whole heap of cars rather than our specific make which we have felt trapped under for the last 7 years!
The good thing about this outcome was that our time there was short and sweet, so we popped to the nearby shops as the other half wanted to pick up some cheap trainers to wear on his lunchtime walks/runs at work. We ended up in Decathlon and we ended up finding loads more stuff to buy for the boys. They are both pretty sporty right now, so we grabbed a new small football for Oscar, a couple of tennis rackets and balls for them, a big and little basketball, along with a hoop for the garden so they can play properly! We had no intention to buy this stuff, but it’s all stuff that will hopefully be used a lot!
We then popped into Next Home and successfully found a new drainer for our draining board (yay), and grabbed a new set of glasses as well, because we are down to about 2 in our house after they have slowly got broken over time! Oh and we went into a kitchen showroom too, had a look around, and a very interesting chat with a salesman. Not that we are getting a new kitchen at the moment, but it is on our dreams list after the wedding!
We then decided it was time to go and relieve my Mum and drove the short way back to her house where Zach came bounding up to us, but Oscar was too busy collecting marbles into a bowl!
We had a quick chat with Mum, and then it was time to head back home. Oscar briefly fell asleep in the car, as did Zach in fact, but it isn’t a long journey and they both woke fine when we got home. We showed them some (not all) of their new treats, put dinner on, and then the other half put the basketball hoop together so they could have a play. I forgot how much fun shooting hoops was and we all had some fun doing it!
Then it started bucketing down, so we all went back inside, dinner was served and eaten, the boys were showered, and then we put them to bed. I then made a cup of tea, sat down with my laptop, and finished this post 🙂
We had a lovely long weekend together with a great mixture of activity! Around a lot of weird weather!
