Our weekend happy – A new class, some super cleaning, and a fun day with my littlies! – Mummascribbles
It was our first weekend back to normal with both boys having their respective morning classes. And as per usual, after a cup of tea and an early read, the morning was a rush of us getting ready and out of the house, arriving in the car park, and running in to get Zach into the pool.

He had a good swimming lesson, Oscar had an OK rugby session (although he did do awesomely well with the kicking bit), and Zach had a little play with one of his friends out in the park before they all got a bit too chilly and came back in. Zach then came running in to ask if he could have a chocolate milkshake with his friend and I said yes and grabbed Oscar one too because you know, I can’t leave him out!
We went back home once they were finished and we grabbed some breakfast and some more food for the constantly hungry duo while they chilled out with the tablet and iPad for a while. And then it was time for Oscar’s nap and a new adventure for Zach.
Over the Christmas holidays there was an advent competition on one of the local Facebook groups, and one of the days’ competitions was to win a term at the local Stagecoach performing arts school. I sadly didn’t win the competition but in the middle of last week, I received an message on Facebook to say that they had a couple of spaces for the new term and would I like it for free? Well of course I did! But I needed to talk it over with Zach to make sure he wanted to do it, and so the very next morning we had a chat and he wanted to go for it – so I got him all booked up.
And Saturday at 11.15 was his first class. It’s only a short drive away, but I had told him I would stay so that he knew I was still nearby, as he is always a little nervous of starting new things (aren’t we all?).
When we arrived we had no idea where we were going, but between us and another couple of families, we navigated ourselves to the right place and waited while the rest of the class arrived. And then off he went, first in the line, down the corridor to the room where they would be having their class. And for an hour and a half I sat and read my book. I actually read some book for the first time in an age. It was proper lush, just sitting there quietly with no-one needing anything from me!

And then he came out. You should have seen his face. He absolutely bloody loved it! He was beaming from ear to ear, started telling me about all that they had done, and then as we were leaving and passing the teachers, I asked how he’d done and one of them said he’d been fantastic – that he had actually sung his favourite song from The Greatest Showman all by himself because he wanted to, AND that he had popped a couple of little dance moves in. She said that it had made her cry inside a little bit. I was over the moon. I have been wanting him to find his ‘thing’. The thing he loves week after week after week. Of course, performing arts school is blimmin expensive, but if that’s his thing, then so be it.

Once we got home, Oscar was still asleep so we snuck upstairs to find Daddy, and Zach burst in declaring how much he had loved his class. He told him all about it and then the other half popped downstairs to make us some lunch and then he went into the garden to clean the rabbit out. And very shortly afterwards, just as Zach and I had started watching The Greatest Showman on the iPad (we are obsessed!), Oscar woke up, so we went downstairs to see him and he was in his usual just woken up grump. Luckily it didn’t last for long and he was soon eating a crumpet and messing around.
When the other half was fully in from the garden, I decided to hide myself in the bathroom and give it a full deep clean. It had gotten a bit mucky between the tiles and was bothering me a lot, so I scrubbed and I bleached, and every now and then a little person came to see me and I shouted at them to go away because there was so much bleach in use!

I could also hear a whole lot of laughter coming from the front room because the boys were playing with their Daddy 🙂
My cleaning sesh was pretty epic and dinner was put in the oven before I had finished, and even then there was still more to do! I eventually finished, we cooked the roasties and the veg, and we sat down to eat. And thanks to him smearing chocolate custard all over himself, we popped Oscar in the shower and then put them both to bed.

I watched The Voice, wrote half of this post, and the other half played some new computer games!
Sunday 13th January
The morning started early and with it came a very tired Mummy with a headache. So I sent the boys into their Dad, was dragged in there myself, and I asked him if he would take them downstairs. Of course, Mummy had to go too so I had a quick wee and then crept back upstairs to bed and slept for about another hour and a half or so – totally needed it!
When I finally appeared downstairs, I had some brekkie and then we got ready. The other half was heading off to the snooker with his mates for the day and so I was solo parenting. Oscar needed to go out for his nap and Zach was surprisingly up for a wander over the ‘duck park’ which is quite a rarity these days.
We all left the house, the other half going to the station and us walking round to the park. Oscar was refusing to go to sleep until we had gone to feed the ducks so we went straight to them, discovered most of the bread was mouldy anyway, and then persuaded him to lay down before we went off to the White Water Rafting Centre where Zach had requested we go, playing a quick game of poo sticks and taking a detour to the canal on the way.

Once we were there, we had a wander round together watching the rafters who all seemed to be young children, he played in the play area for a while, and then we popped to the cafe to grab some lunch – choosing to eat outside because I knew the noise inside the cafe would wake the sleeping Oscar.
Once he had finally finished eating, we decided to head home and it was lovely walking into the warm house because it had got pretty cold outside. Oscar woke up pretty soon after we had sat upstairs so we went down and gave him some lunch.
We then put our shoes back on and jumped in the car to go to soft play. Sadly when we got there, we discovered that it was only open for another hour. I had checked their Facebook page but there had been no mention of them closing early, else I wouldn’t have bothered going. Saying that, they managed to have so much fun, didn’t stop running around, and were sweaty messes by the end of the hour!
When we got home, I popped the TV on for Oscar, Zach grabbed the iPad, and I did a bit of washing up and hoovered the house whilst our dinner of pizza was in the oven cooking away!
We ate our dinner, read some books at Oscar’s request, and then I showered them both and then got them up to bed, where we read another pile of books before they finally went to sleep.
And then, I sat on the sofa, drunk a mug of tea, ate a few choccies (making the most of them before I start Dechox in February), finished this post off and watched Dancing On Ice (all with a couple of disturbances from Oscar who was a bit unsettled).
I have actually ended this weekend feeling so content. Parenting can be so tough, especially when you have a six year old who can be super tricky to deal with, and a two year old who totally knows his own mind, but this weekend has left me feeling so fortunate for my two boys, for the other half, and the wonderful life that we have together 🙂 There was a lot of happiness this weekend 🙂
