Our weekend happy – a shopping spree, park trip, and a visit to Grandad in the woods! – Mummascribbles
With it being half term, Zach had no performing arts but still had his usual swimming lesson. I took him alone while the other half stayed home with Oscar, and he did amazing swimming – on his back with no floats for the first time. It’s been his most recent fear – the laying back and believing he wasn’t going to drown, so I was so proud that he did it.
When he was finished, we popped into the cafe and grabbed him a snack and then went home. We were going to divert to Pets At Home, but I decided that it would be too much of a rush.
Once home, I had some breakfast and then my Mum arrived at ten as she was looking after the boys for the day. We filled her in on everything and then left for the train station as we were heading into Stratford for a much needed shopping trip at Westfield. We have been meaning to go for months, but just haven’t gotten around to it.
Unfortunately, the direct train line wasn’t running, so we had to go the very long way round. We eventually got there though, trying out a slightly different route than we originally planned!

Once in Westfield, it was pretty much spend, spend spend. We first went to M&S where I found a bunch of stuff for myself, then we went to Schuh as I needed a new pair of Birkenstocks, then we passed Sketchers and nipped in and ended up buying two pairs of comfy shoes! We then passed a shop called Apricot which I have totally fallen in love with and I ended up buying four absolutely gorgeous dresses from there. And then we headed to Next where the other half picked up a bunch of stuff and I got some bits for the boys! I had to leave the other half in the changing room as I had a bra fitting appointment in M&S, so I went off, got measured (it was not easy), and then bought a few bras and grabbed my final purchase of a new swimming cossie! We were two people on a shopping mission.

It was about 4pm, we hadn’t eaten, and were planning on going to TGI’s. When we arrived there, there was a 25 minute wait for a table, so I called my Mum to make sure she was OK with us getting home later than expected (we had shopped for longer then expected), and she was fine, so we happily waited for our table, grabbing a couple of orange juice and lemonade’s from the bar (which the lady messed up because we ended up with two orange juices and two lemonades which we then mixed together).

It wasn’t long before our table was ready, and we ordered their big sharing platter, a rack of ribs each, and it was followed with dessert. I’m not going to lie, I felt a bit sick afterwards but it was totally worth it!

We then made our way to the train station, popping into M&S to grab a bottle of wine for back at home on the way. Luckily the other train line had started up again, so our journey home was much quicker and we arrived home just after seven. The boys were happy to see us but they had had a fab day with Nannie!
My Mum left and we got the boys ready for bed. A bit of a later night than usual for them, and when they were finally asleep, we went downstairs, opened the wine, and put a film on. OK, I may have sat on my phone and done some social media scheduling, because I knew that if I didn’t do it, I’d be really behind on stuff!
Sunday 2nd June
Oscar’s football was still on despite it being half term, and the boys had us up super early despite having the slightly later night! It did mean that we had plenty of time to get everyone ready and while I took Oscar, the other half took Zach up to the park. I don’t have much to say about that because I wasn’t there, but I do know that he made a friend (as usual), and was happily playing away!
Oscar and I arrived home and I had a few bits to do, and then the other two arrived home with the shopping as they had popped to the shops on route. I made lunch, everyone ate, and then we jumped in the car, popped to Pets At Home (we waited in the car in the queue to get out while the other half ran in, because the car park was chaos), and then drove up to the woodland site where my Dad is buried. Monday would have been his 71st birthday and I wanted to pay a visit.
It was a perfect day for being there. The weather was gorgeous, there were lots of low flying air-planes to watch as it’s right near an airfield, and the special railway was also running which meant they got to see a couple of steam trains too. They love running around the woods and exploring, and I love how much they love visiting the Grandad they never met. We put some flowers down and had a little chat with him, and they gave him lots of kisses and cuddles and sang happy birthday to him!
We went back home, the other half sat with Oscar who was very tired, Zach added some recycled bits onto his keyboard to make it into a bigger one man band piece, and I cleaned the rabbit out before cooking dinner (which Zach helped me with).
We then ate, and it was time to get them ready for, and up to bed.
It was the Britain’s Got Talent final night so I watched that while doing a bit of work, and then we went up to bed!
We had a really nice weekend. And especially enjoyed some time for just the two of us on Saturday. It is such a rarity!
