Our weekend happy – Christmas meet up, friends and snow! – Mummascribbles
We had plans in place for Saturday for quite a while. Usually every year, a small group of our friends meet up for our Christmas dinner get together. There are usually six of us and however many children we have between us. We go to one of our houses, have a good old catch up, eat yummy food and exchange presents for the kids (we stopped doing gifts to each other when we suddenly had a massive brood).
This year it all changed slightly. With us mostly all having families and it being harder to meet up as a larger group, we combined out Christmas meet with some of our wider group of friends and a had a ruddy lovely time!
We headed to Leytonstone in East London (where we used to live), and first off went to our friend’s house before we all headed down to the pub we were meeting the others at. The pub has somewhat changed since I lived there and is now quite a posh establishment – full of families and swanky seating areas, pool tables, table tennis tables and a lovely little garden area.
The six of us (and 5 children) had lunch (I had the yummiest burger with bbq pulled pork!), and then exchanged the kids pressies before we were soon joined by the rest of the friends who were coming. We basically then spent hours catching up, playing pool, chasing the littlies round the garden despite it being absolutely freezing, and then heading back to our friend’s house to have a quick hot chocolate before getting the boys in the car and heading home. It was a really wonderful day and the boys were on their best behaviour as always!

Sunday, well – our plans completely changed when we woke up to snow!

We were supposed to be going to visit my Mum at her new house but as she got even more snow than us, the roads were chaos and unsafe to really drive anywhere, we decided to cancel. Which of course made me a little sad because we haven’t managed to get to her house yet since she started owning it on Friday but there was no way we were going anywhere!

We had a chilled morning getting ready and then headed out into the snow to go the shops as we hadn’t picked anything up for lunch or dinner – typical!

Oscar was supposed to go to sleep but instead he screamed and when we got home, I had to take him upstairs and feed him to sleep on the bed. He then woke up too soon, he fed back to sleep again and because he was a bit unsettled at this point, I stayed up there for another hour, having a little snooze alongside him – although I was awake the whole time as I could hear what was going on downstairs. Does anyone else have trouble actually napping in the day?

Once he woke up, we gave him a bite to eat and then since it was getting quite late in the day, we decided it was about time to go and build a snowman.
I had genuinely forgotten how utterly freezing it is when you are building a snowman and so we basically done it as quickly as possible. It looked a bit rubbish but it was the boys first ever one.

We then quickly went inside and defrosted – me with a nice cup of tea!
When we had decided that going to Mum’s was not a good idea, we also decided that having sausages for dinner was also a rubbish idea and instead, we had picked up a roast chicken in the supermarket. What a great decision that was because it was the perfect way to end a snowy Sunday.
And even more perfect (sort of) was getting the text to say that school would be closed on Monday so we went to bed knowing that we could have a lie in. Well, me and the boys could anyway as the other half had to get up super early to travel down to Sutton for the course he is doing this week!
