Our weekend happy – classes, a night out, and new fish! – Mummascribbles

Well it started out pretty awful! I had spent the whole night with a belly ache and then Oscar woke up at 4.30am and wanted to go downstairs. And he really meant it. So I found myself downstairs with him at that appalling time, still with a stomach ache. The other half also came down to let the dog out but I told him to go back to bed. I tried to get comfy on the sofa to snooze but Oscar kept asking for things and the dog kept moving around. After a while I gave up and went to wake the other half up so I could go to bed for just a little while. And it really was a little while because I had to get back up to take the boys swimming!

We all got ready and the boys and I rushed out the door once I’d spent 5 minutes de-icing the car.

The boys had great lessons. Oscar jumped in and went all the way under and Zach did some fab solo swimming on his front. I was very proud of them both! Afterwards we hung out in the cafe for a while with their friends, and then they went outside to play for a few minutes before realising it was far too cold to be outside.

It was time to get Zach up to performing arts, so we drove up there and dropped him off. It was bring a friend week and he met his friend from swimming there who we know loves it!

Oscar and I went home afterwards and he pretty much fell asleep on the way. But not quite enough and so we went indoors and he chilled out. I popped out to get my eyebrows threaded and grab lunch, and then went home, ate, and then went to pick Zach up again. It’s amazing how quick those three hours go!

Once the biggest and I were home, he immediately started on about what we could do and where we could go. Only we were absolutely knackered. He had been going on about using the money from his money box to get some more Lego and so I sat with him scrolling through the Argos website and he chose what it was he wanted in stock at our local store, so then we popped our shoes on and we went over to the shops. I let him do everything himself. He popped in the product code, added his name as the reference, and took his piece of paper to the checkout where he paid with his money. He felt very grown up bless him!

He wanted to start building the moment we got home, so I popped the kettle on, made a cuppa, and sat down to help him. The other half had been chilling out with the dog and Oscar!

At 4pm I had to stop because I needed to get in the shower to get ready for a our first night out together in more than 3 years. The other half took the dog for a walk and then as I was getting ready, my Sister and Nephew arrived to look after the boys. As we were running a bit late, it was a bit chaotic and then we had to say goodbye to the kids and dash to the train station. We just made the train and I got the report that the kids were just fine (despite Oscar pretending to be a bit sad).

We made our journey and arrived in our old hood of Leytonstone where we were going to the pub for a surprise birthday party. Because of the train times, we got there super early and planned to have a munch while we waited. And munch we did. We ordered a bunch of appetisers and wolfed down the lot with a bottle of wine!

People then started to arrive and then the birthday boy arrived to the surprise! We spent the whole night chatting to the bunch of people we always end up chatting to when we go to these particular friends’ events, and it was really lovely. Two bottles of wine and a bottle of Prosecco later and we were dashing as fast as we could to catch our train home. Which we missed, but luckily there was another one going to the other station close to us so we jumped on that. We got home after midnight, then spent ages chatting to my Sister (who hadn’t had the easiest time with Oscar because despite being up at 4.30, he refused to go to sleep until 8.45 because he wanted me) and Nephew and his girlfriend that we met for the first time, and went to bed just after 1.30am.

Sunday 19th January

Well Oscar had a bit of a rough night but luckily they slept in until 7.45 which is an absolute miracle (though they had obviously had a later night than planned). I weirdly didn’t wake up with a hangover, I was just very, very tired. We all got up and got ready and I took Oscar to football and I then took the dog to his training class. It was pretty tough driving around so tired but I managed it. When I got home, I had a giant cuppa and the chocolate cookie that was waiting for me, and I sat down to help Zach with more Lego. I couldn’t warm up though. I was frozen to the bones and my whole body was aching. I was convinced I was coming down with something!

I had promised the other half a trip to the fish shop because he needed a new light for the tank and wanted to grab a few new fish too. So off we went back out into the cold and drove to the shop. The boys loved looking at all the fish and the giant Gorilla, we chose some fish and then took them home and added them to the tank.

I still felt really rubbish at this time and so another cup of tea it was, and more Lego because it meant I could still give attention but also sit down! I also multi-tasked and read a few books to Oscar.

The other half cooked a roast for us and then we sat down to eat. And that seemed to perk me up! After that, I was warm again. It was soon time to get the kids ready for bed and off to sleep they went. I spent the evening doing some VA work that I had and the other half played computer games. I got my work done and went up to bed nice and early!

Despite feeling ill pretty much the whole weekend with both the tummy ache and then the flu feelings, it was a really good one. Our night out was great, and even though the kids did have a late night, we did manage to stay out the whole evening! Which is practise for our wedding night because we will be in a separate hotel haha!!
