Our weekend happy – soft play, football, and a visit to Mum! – Mummascribbles
Our final weekend of the Christmas holidays and Oscar had us up early! I was hoping to sneak off to bed for a while but it didn’t happen because Oscar required my presence. I guess in a way it did us a favour because it meant we were up and ready nice and early. Zach actually came downstairs a bit later and he had gotten up and got himself dressed immediately – because he knew we were going out!
And going out we were. We were due to take a trip up to Ryeassic in Hoddesdon – one of their fave soft play places. Initially we were all going to be going, but then we decided that I would take the boys and the other half would stay home, walk the dog and clean the fish tank out – something that is far easier when the boys aren’t at home!
So I got ready, the boys got ready, and then we jumped in the car and drove up there. I had gotten two free tickets after we went there for their Halloween special and they needed to be used by the end of this month. Since this Saturday was the last with absolutely no classes, it seemed like the best day to do it.
The boys had an absolutely fab time. They immediately found a friend to play with (not someone they knew but they pick up friends wherever they go!), and they didn’t stop for the whole time we were there. I had myself a tasty hot chocolate and chilled out for a while. Once they had enough of running around, we had a quick go of bowling and then they played outside for a while before Oscar decided he was far too tired and wanted to go home.

Oscar briefly fell asleep on route home, but not long enough to enter a deep one, so when we got back, he chilled out on the sofa for a while and I popped to the shops to grab a few bits. When I got back it was time for lunch which the other half had started preparing. We all sat and chilled for a while and then I decided to scrub the bathroom white again while the other half entertained Zach with a bit of (very painful) Cluedo, the iPad entertained a very tired Oscar, and the snuffle mat entertained the dog (for 2 minutes).

Once I was finished in the bathroom, I took the dog for a walk with Zach and the other half started prepping dinner. When we got back, dinner was on the go and Zach wanted to have some fun with Say It Don’t Spray It. It wasn’t long though before our Fajitas were ready, so we sat down to eat and as it was served quite late, it was time to get the kids ready for bed straight afterwards. They both went to sleep very easily indeed, and then we spent the evening doing our usual computing/work while watching TV. Oscar kept coughing and waking on and off so I soon ended up in bed before planned!
Sunday 5th January
Well once again it was an early morning, and the cat had me awake at stupid o clock and I couldn’t get back to sleep! The other half came downstairs and I managed to sneak back upstairs to bed for a couple of hours! I was re-awoken at 8.30 and I can’t say that I felt any better for it!
I went downstairs, had some brekkie with a cuppa, then got ready to take Oscar to football. Zach wanted to come too, so off we went, as the other half was taking the dog for a walk.
Oscar had a fairly decent footie session. He wasn’t quite as in it, as other times, but then he has had a lot of broken sleep recently with this pesky cough, and so everything is extra effort at the moment!

After the session, we went straight home and I got myself ready to take the dog to his first training session of the year. I left the boys safely and happy at home with Daddy, and drove to training. It was cold but Buster had a very good session bless him. He isn’t the easiest dog to train. He spends most of his time sniffing for food (which is constant considering there has always been a puppy class before ours so there is leftover treats EVERYWHERE!), and he is always quite distracted by the other dogs because he loves them and just wants to play with them!
The session finished and I had already planned to head on up to my Mum’s for a cuppa. She lives about 5 minutes away from where we train so I popped Buster in the car (he actually jumps in by himself now and just sits then lays and gets comfy, which is amazing as I almost lost him the first week as he tried to bolt out the boot as I closed it).
We arrived at Mum’s and Buster tried to have a play with her dog who wasn’t happy! We managed to calm him down though and they were quite happy with each other again at a distance! I had me lunch, had a cuppa, and a quick visit soon turned into two hours! I figured I had better head off home so popped Buster back in the car and drove back. The boys were just finishing watching Jumanji when I got in and it was soon time to put the chicken in the oven.
The other half took the dog for his early evening walk, and then when he got back, continued with the dinner as the boys wanted me in the front room with them. They played a mixture of sword fights, magic and tablets, and then dinner was ready so we all ate before we got the kids ready for bed nice and early so we had plenty of time for stories.
Oscar fell asleep super quick and I left Zach reading his dinosaur fact book that he got out of the library and loves! I soon looked and he had turned his light off and gone to sleep!
We spent the evening just like we did on Saturday – and Dancing On Ice is back which makes me very happy! And it ended with Oscar awake and downstairs with us. The cough needs to do one!
It was a lovely little weekend and I can’t believe our Christmas holidays as a four is over. The other half is back to work today and the boys are back to school and pre-school on Tuesday!
