Our weekend happy – classes, family and wedding suits! – Mummascribbles

Well this weekend was always going to fly by – even without storm Ciara strutting her stuff!

Saturday morning started out with swimming for the boys. I took them up there while the other half went and got his hair cut, and they had the most fabulous lesson. Oscar had a great time splashing around and Zach was really focused and did some fabulous strokes. He is so strong in the water and I was very proud of him.

We popped into the cafe when the lessons were over and it was at that point that I realised Zach’s jazz shoes were not in his bag for performing arts. Luckily, the other half was on his way home and so I drove back home, dropped Oscar off because he was being a pickle in the car, grabbed the shoes, and then drove Zach up to his class.

When I got back, I walked the dog and then I chilled out with Oscar for a while, the other half made lunch, and then it was soon time to go and get him again. Those three hours go so fast!

We got home and at the same time my Mum was walking down our road as she had come over to look after the boys. We were heading to Stevenage to a suit shop to try and find one that we both liked for the wedding. We made Zach some lunch, said goodbye to the boys and then got in the car and drove the 40ish minutes to the shop. And what a success it was. The other half tried on the first suit and I was like, oooooo, hello! He looked gorg and I knew I loved it. He then tried on another one in another colour, and while it was a lovely suit, it kind of just looked like he was going to work and didn’t bring out any of the colours that were also on him. I knew that first suit was the one, and luckily he agreed.

So, suit chosen, deposit paid, and another thing ticked off the list.

We thought about stopping for a quick coffee, but decided to head straight home and it is a good job we did. When we got back, Oscar was in tears because he had run over his toe with the wheelie computer desk chair. I was a bit worried he had really hurt it but after a lot of moaning, I think the pain was just from the scraped bit of skin. My poor Mum felt terrible, although I reassured her that I had no doubt that it would have happened had we been there as well. She had been a star and was hanging up my washing for me! Plus they had been fine and having fun up until that point.

After showing her the pictures from our trip, and calming Oscar down, she went off home again, I sat cuddled with Oscar, Zach did a word-search, and the other half cooked dinner for us. We ate and then it was time to get the boys to bed, especially Oscar who was absolutely exhausted.

Once they were asleep, I sat and watched Saturday night TV while the other half and then we went to bed!

Sunday 9th February

We woke up to storm Ciara! Boy it was windy but with an 8 month old dog in the house, he still needed walking! Even just a little one. We got ready and I went out with him and Zach. I had warned Zach not to come with me but he ignored me and we had got about two minutes from home when he decided he didn’t like it and wanted to go back! So I walked him back round the corner, watched him go home, and then took the dog back round the block.

I got home as quick as I could because it was pretty scary out there, and then it was time to take Oscar to football. His classes are inside so it was still running. We drove up there, he had his lesson, and I then got home again as soon as I could!

When we got back, Zach had been busy and had hoovered and mopped the floors for me. He and the other half popped over to the shops, Oscar did some crafting, and then when they got back, we made some lunch, ate it, and waited for the other half’s family to get round. You see, despite the storm, the other half, his Dad, brother, and our two boys and nephew, were due to go back to the suit shop to have all their measurements taking. It had been booked a few weeks ago and was the only time they could get together, so had to go ahead with going.

They arrived and hung around for an hour before they had to go. I was worried about them the whole time they were out, but they got there OK, got back OK (although it was worse on the roads coming home), and all measurements were taken. So the suits are sorted and we don’t need to do anything until June with that now. Whoop!

His Mum, my almost Sister in law, and their two girls were round too and we had been sitting chatting all things wedding while the girls played.

When the men got back, tired and hungry, I had begun the food. We had ribs, chicken, pizzas, pasta, and other nibbles with it like sausage rolls and cocktail sausages. It was quite a feast and everyone went home well fed.

They left at about 5.30 and made their final journeys of the day. It had been hard for his Dad and we were very grateful that despite the weather, they still came over to sort the suits out.

The boys had a bit of play time, and then it was time for them to get in the bath and get to bed. It took Oscar a while to fall asleep because he had slept a bit on the journey home, and I fell asleep before he did. I was suddenly woken with the other half’s hand on my arm at 8.15. I went downstairs, made a cuppa, and watched Dancing on Ice while doing some little bits on the laptop. That falling asleep had made me super tired so I wasn’t up to much work!

And then we went to bed!

Monday came around far too quickly. With the weekend being so booked up, it went so fast but I am so pleased that the suits are all sorted and it was lovely to see his family too.
