Stick Man DVD – a review – Mummascribbles

Stick Man oh Stick Man beware of the…

If your child is anything like mine, you have read this book a million times over. It is one of Zach’s favorite Julia Donaldson books and it’s one of my favourites too – I absolutely love reading it to him.

If you don’t know the story, Stick Man, Stick Lady Love and their Stick children three live in their family tree. One day Stick Man decides to go for a jog and well, it’s safe to say he gets a little lost on his route. Will he ever make it back to his family tree?

As have many of her other books, Stick Man was made into an animated half hour programme that was premiered on Christmas day last year. If you have young children I have no doubt that you  (like us) sat and watched it and it may have (like ours) been the only part of Christmas day that featured silent time!

I now bring you parents the most wonderful news. Stick Man is available on DVD. Yep that’s right, you can get a guaranteed half hour of quiet time whenever you fancy it! The DVD is released on Monday 1st February and we were given the very lovely gift of it before its release. On Sunday morning we sat down to watch it together, snuggled up on the sofa. We just absolutely adore it. Everything about it. Obviously the story is the same but it at points goes into much more detail, with characters being brought to life that are only simple images in the book. Each page is brought to life, the imagery is beautiful and children are simply riveted by it. Zach once again sat completely silent throughout. It’s just a beautiful animation and I’m so happy to have it to watch again and again (I don’t think I could ever bore of that story!).

Along with the DVD, we were also kindly sent some amazing Stick Man merchandise in the form of the most gorgeous jigsaw puzzles, a hardcopy version of the book and Zach’s very own Stick Man backpack keyring! To say that I had one very happy boy was a complete understatement.

The lovely people who sent me this have also given me a lovely activity worksheet for your children to print and enjoy. I hope they like it!

We were sent the Stick Man DVD and merchandise for the purpose of a home screening event and so I could bring you this review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Stick Man is available to buy from the 1st February 2016.
