Our weekend happy – parties, soft play and Christmas shopping! – Mummascribbles
Despite me thinking that we’d had a pretty boring weekend and that this would be a pretty boring weekend post, it was actually better than I thought. Well, I say that – I am cheating a little bit because the other half took Monday off work and so we had a bit of an extended weekend!
The boys have both been a bit poorly with a cough and cold. In fact, for the first time ever, both of them slept with me on Friday night and the other half was in Zach’s room. Part of this was because the other half had his second Christmas party and it was easier to put them to bed in the same bed, but also, because Zach was poorly, I didn’t want to disturb him once he was asleep!
My question is, how do two children take up so much of the bed? I mean seriously, they are only small and I was squidged up against Oscar, with Zach’s knees in my back – in a kingsize bed!

Anyway, I digress. Back to the actual weekend.
Saturday morning, we gave the other half a nice lay in. Which actually sucked because I had been awake for so much of the night that in reality, it should have been my lay in. But alas, I was up at six something wanting to cry into my mug of tea!
Eventually at 10am, I sent Zach upstairs to wake him up because I couldn’t get ready until he was down and it would soon be time for Oscar to go out for his walk to get him to take his nap! So the other half got ready first and took him out whilst Zach and I had showered and got ready.
Zach had a birthday party invitation for the Saturday afternoon and because Oscar was so snotty and feeling a bit poop, I decided that I would take Zach to the party and Oscar would stay home with Daddy. These little experiments are all a part of me seeing just how much I can leave Oscar. He wasn’t best pleased but he soon got over it and Daddy had a lovely couple of hours with his littlest man – something he so rarely gets to do.
Meanwhile, Zach had a fab time at the party (despite an initial crying session over who could sit next to the birthday boy!). It was an old nursery friend and some of the other mum’s were there so we had a right good catch up about how everyone is getting on at school etc! It was really lovely.
Once it was finished, we headed home and Oscar was very pleased to see us both. It was pretty much time to do dinner and bed after that – the day whizzes by when one of you sleeps in until 10am!
Sunday was my lay in day. I was actually up quite early but I was kindly sent back up to bed and actually managed to get back to sleep. I even almost made it to 10am before I was rudely awoken by Zach!
Initially I was planning on going and doing the last of my Christmas shopping on Sunday but we ended up going for a rather rainy walk to get Oscar to sleep and then spent ages over the local shops buying a new toilet seat!

The day pretty much disappeared away from us as we didn’t really do anything else other than eat cake (which sent Zach into full on sugar rush and was a bit of a shouty afternoon!). Oh and we finally got around to writing our Christmas cards in the evening!

Monday – the extra day. It wasn’t actually planned but when I didn’t manage to go shopping on Sunday, I suggested that the other half take the day off because a) he had a day to take, and b) I could not face doing it with the boys. I mean, I was choosing Christmas cards the other day for ten minutes in a shop and Oscar went into meltdown!
So, he booked the day off over text and plans were made. Well, the plans were made by me, he just agreed.
I suggested that we all drive up to where the big stores are but that I would drop them all off at soft play just across the road whilst I went and did the shopping! Zach was super excited, Oscar only understands when he actually arrives inside a play centre, and the other half, well, he had no choice. As he said, it was easier there than at home hehe!
I spent just over two hours in the shops. It was not calm, my head was all over the place trying to remember things, but I mostly managed it all and then headed back over to pick them up and take them home. Oscar was well and truly ready for his nap and Zach looked knackered too.

Home we went and Oscar slept for a whopping…hour and twenty minutes. Honestly he needed about two and a half hours after that! Whilst he was asleep, we had lunch and sort of watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and then once he was awake, it was back to chaos!
I still needed to go back over to the shops across the road to go to the post office and get the very final couple of bits so once the other half had cleaned the rabbit out (whilst it was still daylight!), I popped out, childless again (I think I might be enjoying these child free moments a bit too much!).
Once I was back home, I was supposed to be cooking a Lasagne, but Oscar had other ideas. He decided that he had had enough Daddy time and that he needed to be attached to me. So instead, I stood holding him in the kitchen whilst directing the cooking instructions to the other half. Somehow, we managed not to kill each other!
Dinner was eaten, dessert was eaten (by the boys), and it was their (much needed) bath and bedtime.

And that was our long weekend. The other half is back at work until the weekend, Zach is finished with school until the new year and I am in survival mode!
