Our weekend happy – soft play, footie and a trip out for Mummy! – Mummascribbles
The kids actually slept in a bit. It was starting to get light outside when Zach woke up, and then Oscar carried on sleeping until 7am. What a treat!
Both boys have had a bit of a cold the last week, so I asked Zach if he wanted to go swimming or not and he said no. He had no performing arts this week so I figured it would be quite nice if he had nothing to do on one Saturday!
As soon as he realised his day was clear, the first thing he asked to do was go to soft play. We figured that with the weather forecast set to be shocking, soft play was probably our best bet. But of course, we have the dog now and can’t leave him for too long. We decided that after I had taken him for a walk, I would take the boys to soft play so that the other half could stay home, watch the Rugby and keep Buster company. So that is exactly what we did.
I took the dog for a walk before the weather got really bad (the wind upped itself just as we were heading home and he did not like it AT ALL), and then when we got back, the boys were all ready to go, so up to soft play we went. We spent two hours there, I had a yummy hot chocolate and did some work while the boys played (and badgered me way more than was necessary – how is parenting in soft play even hard at the moment?!).

At 11.30 we went home and then the other half and Zach went to the barbers. Not that Zach really needed his cut but he gets a bit uncomfortable with his hair sometimes so it’s best to let him choose when he needs it done. On the way back, they grabbed some bacon and Zach and I had a bacon sarnie for lunch. I spent some time researching bins because Buster has totally worked how to get into ours and we currently have a brick on top of it, and then I went over to the shops where I had an appointment at my beauticians to get my eyebrows threaded. Once I was done there, I popped to Sainsbury’s and then to Homebase to see if I could get a mat for the kitchen by the back door. We have a step in our kitchen which has a small mat on it but it is not enough and with the dog going out and us going with him, all of our feet are bringing a lot of mud back in. Luckily, I found the perfect answer and it fitted brilliantly. Hopefully there will be less mess in the kitchen now! I didn’t have any luck on the bin issue – I could see him getting into all of them.

When I returned, Zach was on his laptop (a spare we have that he thinks is his) and Oscar was playing with play-doh. It was almost time to start dinner, but Buster also needed a walk. I was just going to take him but then there was a whole to do with which of the small people wanted to come with me, so in the end we all went. Which of course ended in both boys moaning – especially when the weather got really crap again.

Once home, I cooked a lasagne, the kids did their own things, and then we sat down to eat. It was quite late, so afterwards it was time for bed and once they were asleep, we went downstairs, carried on the bottle of wine I had opened on Friday, and I did some work while the other half played computer games.

Sunday 3rd November
Well it wasn’t quite the lay in of Saturday! The dog woke up early, then Zach woke up, shortly followed by Oscar. So we were all up and chilling during the morning.

Zach and I played his Harry Potter board game and then the other half played with him while I got ready. I then took the dog for a walk before it was time to go to Oscar’s footie class. Zach wanted to join us this well so the three of us went while the other half stayed home.
Oscar loved having his big bro there and did some very good footie skills!
At the end of the class, we got in the car and drove home. I popped to the shops quickly and then it was time for me to head out. I was off to meet my Sister’s old antenatal crew for the afternoon/evening.
A little history here. My sister had her son 17 years ago when I was just 20 and I basically became one of the antenatal crew because I was always with my Sister and my gorgeous baby nephew. Over the years they have always stayed in touch and even though it’s been years since we all got together, when we do, it’s never any different to how it was.
One of the crew is moving to America with her new husband and so this was a farewell get together. I drove over to Loughton where one of them lives as we would be going back to her house, and then we walked down to the cafe where we were meeting some others, including my Sis and nephew. Some of the other ‘kids’ were there too and it was amazing seeing how bloomin big they all are now!
We had a lovely lunch together and then we went back to the house where we didn’t stop nattering, drinking tea and eating our weight in sweet treats! A couple more joined us and it was just a fab time. I would show you some photos but I was so busy having fun, I didn’t take any!
While I was out, the other half was busy entertaining the kids with dog walks, iPads, Lego, and raking the garden!
I had checked with the other half that he didn’t want me home for bed-time and of course he said no. I did say that if he needed me, I wasn’t far away, but thankfully the boys were good as gold and fell asleep fairly easily. I didn’t intend on staying as late as I did, but it was too good a time we were having. But by half eight, I was ready to head home – tired, worn out, and knowing I had to drive through the creepy forest in the dark.
When I got home, the other half and the dog were chilling on the sofa watching an Avengers film, so I just got myself mostly ready for bed, and then sat with them and wrote the rest of this post!
And then it was well and truly time for bed. I was so very tired but feeling happy from having such a lovely time.
It was a super lovely weekend overall. And the end of that half term week!
