Siblings (January 2018) – Mummascribbles
It’s the first siblings post of the year and I realise I never got round to writing December’s one as it was such a busy month blog wise and family wise!
So here we are at the start of the year, and my gorgeous boys are 5yrs 4mths and 16mths. I never initially planned on having a big age gap but financial circumstances made it that way and actually, I absolutely love it.
It doesn’t come without its challenges, like when Zach is desperate for some mummy attention and can’t get it properly, or when Oscar wants to do everything his brother does and gets super frustrated when with some things, he just can’t.
Just recently though, the wonderful moments have far outweighed the bad ones when it comes to watching them together.
There are a few things that they do which just melt my heart. Most of it also makes me have to repeatedly shout be careful, but at the heart of it, they are just having the most fun ever.
The first thing they do is fall over on the bed. Now, this comes with us having to constantly tell Zach to actually stop because he is way too big and constantly sounds like he is going to break the bed every time he lands! However, it is super hard when Oscar is doing it, is a lot lighter than Zach and just blooming loves doing it together. They stand there, at the pillow end, and Oscar counts with a ‘ga’. So he goes, ‘ga, ga, ga, gaaaaaa’, and they both launch themselves forwards onto the duvet. The laughter and excitement is just gorgeous and it is one of Oscar’s most favourite things to do with his brother (much to our dismay!).

The next thing they do is chase each other up and down the living room! We have a through lounge and as all furniture is to the sides, it leaves a clear runway from one end to the other. In the last week or so, they have discovered that chasing each other is so much fun and the squealing and laughter that comes with it is wonderful. That said, someone always ends up on the floor, usually Oscar because he starts trying to go faster than his little legs can take him!
The last thing is when Oscar just sits being pushed around by his brother. It might be on the lid of a box, it might be on a cushion, it might be in a cardboard box or it might be inside the washing basket. Whatever it is, if Zach is doing the pushing, Oscar literally just sits there, not moving a muscle and looking a little bit like lord muck!
It seems that in general, Zach could do anything and Oscar would absolutely love it. He completely idolises him and even though they do have their moments when they are bickering over a toy, their relationship is utterly gorgeous.
Here are a few of my favourite moments over the last few weeks.
