TV time – Mummascribbles

I think I’ve done pretty well in that Zach has reached the age of two and only just knows every single character on Cbeebies! I never had to try massively hard to be honest; he just wasn’t interested. He would much rather play with his toys and if the tv was on, he’d stop what he was doing and watch the music intro and then as soon as the programme actually started, he’d carry on playing. This meant that we didn’t really have any kids tv on and his favourite music intro’s were The Chase and Countdown!! Iwas very happy that my child wasn’t one to sit in front of a tv screen but I did know that it was inevitable that he would eventually come to favour a certain genre of programmes!

Currently he is very limited to what he can watch as I refuse to pay Sky any more money than we already do and so we don’t have the full selection of children’s channels so it’s Cbeebies all the way for him at home! Thus, he knows them all. Every time a show comes on he excitedly squeals the name of it! However, he still doesn’t watch the entire programme and that is fine by me. There are certain programmes that get his full attention – he loves In The Night Garden and Mr Tumble (so much so that he dances with Igglepiggle and Upsy Daisy and was this evening wandering around saying Mr Tumble, where are you?!), and it was earlier today when he was stood engrossed in Tumble that I realised he’s on his way to becoming a little tv fan.

I have less of a problem with it now he’s a bit older and I always knew it was inevitable but it does still please me that most of the time he still only wants to watch the music intro

I know there’s going to come a time when he really does become a fully fledged tv fan and that I’ll have to limit how much it is actually on but while he’d still rather watch a NASA space shuttle launch on YouTube (which has taught him to count backwards), than a whole episode of Thomas, I don’t think I’ll worry too much!!

Are your little ones huge tv fans and do you have to limit the amount of time it’s on? I’d be really interested to hear your tv tales!!
