I am a nineties girl. Born in the eighties, but well and truly living the best of my childhood through the nineties. And my god the nineties were epic. They hold so many memories and for so many reasons. So I thought I would take a look back, relive my childhood, and enjoy a reminisce of the best (in my opinion) decade!

We had the best TV programmes

I don’t even know where to start with this one, but we definitely had THE BEST TV in the nineties. The Really Wild Show, Finders Keepers, SM:TV, Live & Kicking, Rugrats, The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, Friends, Art Attack, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Clarissa, Keenan & Kel, The Demon Headmaster, Sister Sister, Gladiators, Noel’s House Party, The Big Breakfast, The Crystal Maze, 2 Point 4 Children, The Brittas Empire, and Saved By The Bell to name but a few! We were NEVER lost for something to watch, and Saturday morning TV was just the best!

There were shops that we rented films from!

Oh yes. There was no Netflix, Amazon Prime, Now TV, and Showbox back in the 90’s. If you wanted to watch a film, you had to walk up to Blockbusters and rent one out! I’m not going to lie, there was something pretty special about searching through the shelves to find a new movie to watch! And it was even more special when you bumped into a mate doing the same! Of course, DVD’s weren’t around in the nineties (yes really), so it was all about the super cool VHS!

We had dummy necklaces

If you are a nineties youth, you will totally remember fully grown children walking around with toy dummies round their necks – heck you were probably one of them.

Yes they were a thing, and a really popular thing! We all had them. We all spent time pretending we were babies! It was the weirdest fad EVER!

We had the Tamagotchi

You weren’t a real child if you didn’t have an electronic pet to look after. These little handheld animals required feeding, watering, playing with, and letting out to the toilet, in order to stay alive.

I regularly killed mine through neglect!

We had an epic return of the troll toys

They may have been around for a while but boy were we obsessed with Trolls in the nineties. I had a large collection of them, and it took me a lot of effort to part with them when I was bigger!

We had the battle of the rock bands

Oh yes, nineties rock was all about Blur vs Oasis. You weren’t allowed to like both, because the front-men despised each other! Though both made pretty epic music, so it really wasn’t fair to have to favour one over the other!

We had the best boy/girl groups

I mean the nineties was the BEST era when it came to girl and boy bands. We had the emergence of Take That, East 17, Boyzone, Westlife, Backstreet Boys. Along with the female influence of All Saints, Eternal, Destiny’s Child, and of course, The Spice Girls.

Yes that’s right. Anyone who is just experiencing The Spice Girls for the first time, well – WE HAD THEM FIRST!

I’ll never forget when Wannabe came out, and you know what – I still know every single word of that song off by heart!

If you were watching the Britain’s Got Talent Final last night, you may have noticed a very special advert featuring The Spice Girls. Yes, 22 years after they starred in a Walker’s Ad, they joined together again for a campaign that searched for Walkers Spice Girls Best Ever Fan, giving that lucky winner, the chance to meet their heroes! If you go on social media and search #BestEverFan, you’ll be able to see the entries!

And if you didn’t see the video because you were whizzing through the longest show ever, then it’s right here for you to take a peek at!

Were you a nineties kid? What was your favourite thing from the decade?
