Mummascribbles – Making up for the time away! – Mummascribbles

This weekend was one about spending as much time with my little man as possible. Every weekend is special and we try and do as many fun things as we can, whether that is indoors or out and about but when I’ve been away with work, it’s the most important time for me to spend getting as many kisses and cuddles as I possibly can!

The weekend started with delivery of our very first dishwasher. This meant we were all up early and ready to begin the day. Of course, it can’t all be fun and games so we got the boring bit out of the way first with a trip to Tesco’s! We try and get our weekly shop done and out of the way so we have the rest of the weekend to do as we please (I am working on the possibility of online grocery shopping – something the other half isn’t a massive fan of!). After that was finished, Zach had a wonderful nap on our way to our first fun thing – the meeting of one of our best friend’s new baby! Little Eliza was born last Wednesday and she is simply gorgeous! I wasn’t sure how Zach would take to a tiny being and how he would feel seeing Mummy cuddling said baby but he didn’t care and he loved her. He thought she was fascinating and kept saying ‘gagy, gagy’ (he can’t pronouce his b’s yet!). As for me…broody as ever! It’s been a while since I held something so precious and small but I was a natural as always and much more confident seeing as it wasn’t my own!

Baby Eliza cuddles!

Zach and little Eliza!

After we had lots of cuddles and heard the amazing birth story (all natural!), we nipped to Harvester with some other friends who were with us! Zach has always been pretty good when out and about and he did me proud once again, eating lots of food and being a good boy. He fell asleep on the way home and went straight to bed without a fuss! That was lush day number one!

Proving his angelic ways at the dinner table!

Lush day number two started early when he decided to wake up at 5.50am and not go back to sleep! We have been trying to go swimming regularly because I want him to be a water baby! I’ve never been massively keen on the water, never been a strong swimmer and so I want him to be the complete opposite to me. We do plan on going every Sunday morning but so far we’ve managed every other week! He is doing so incredibly well and I am so proud of him. We only go for fun and to get him used to it but I will get him lessons when I think he’s ready. At the moment we have get past the initial crying stage – it helps when he sees children a similar age messing around with confidence and within ten minutes he was walking side to side and trying to flap his arms and kick his legs. Not bad for only the third time in the pool!

In the afternoon, after he’d had an almost 3 hour sleep (why is swimming so tiring?), we had some us time. The other half is decorating Zach’s room at the moment (I will reveal all once it’s complete), but it’s taking a while as he can only do it in small chunks! So while he was busy upstairs putting his art skills to the test, Zach and I spent a couple of hours just us, messing around, singing songs and repeating ‘This Little Piggy’ and ‘Round & Round the Garden’ over and over again. After dinner wasn’t such a success – we are struggling to get Zach to understand that he can’t keep feeding the fish and he stands at the tank saying more, more! Me having to say no over and over again (or the fish might die) resulted in a wonderful tantrum! I guess it can’t all be plain sailing can it?!

So that was my make up weekend. It’s all about trying to make up the time I have missed by being away. Sadly, I have another work trip next week – this time I’m away Sunday – Friday. It’s going to be hard but I have to remind myself that the extra money I’ll get will buy his birthday presents! And I’ll be sure to make it up to him again when I’m home!
